Treat your Dry Skin Naturally

by Julie Greenmayer

Dry skin is a relatively minor condition. However, it can make your skin tight and uncomfortable and lead to premature wrinkles.

When dry skin does become a serious condition, it can cause disfiguring and provoke self-esteem issues. Fortunately, most dry skin problems are generated due to environmental factor that can be controlled. In the following text, we will look at lifestyle changes and natural remedies to treat dry skin problems.

Lifestyle Changes to improve Dry Skin

There are several changes that you will have to make to improve your dry skin. They are very straightforward modifications that will not disrupt your daily routine.

Lifestyle Change 1 - Moisturizing Dry Skin

Moisturizing is an essential part to keeping your skin healthy. Apply thick moisturizers when you skin is still damp. Never let your skin dry completely.

You can also start using cosmetics that contain moisturizers. If you have very dry skin, we suggest you use oils instead of lotions or creams. Oil has more staying power and will prevent water from evaporating from the surface of your skin.

Lifestyle Change 2- Bath Time

Never use hot water when you bathe and keep your shower time short. Both hot water and long showers remove oils from your skin. Limit your bath or shower time to about 15 minutes or less, and use warm, not hot, water.

Lifestyle Change 3 - Types of soaps for Dry Skin

The best cleansers for dry skin are those that contain moisturizers. Choose mild soaps that have added oils and fats. Keep away from antibacterial detergents because they are especially harsh.

Always test out different brands of soaps and cleanser to find out which one is best for you. If the cleanser makes your skin tight and itchy, try another one.

Natural Oils and Homemade Remedies for Dry Skin

Many different oils can be used as natural moisturizers. Although olive oil is the most common, there are others like aloe vera oil, rose oil and lavender oil that are also useful. All of these can be used separately or mixed together (with other natural products) like in the following recipe for a natural dry skin moisturizer.

Natural Moisturizer Recipe:

1 tsp. aloe vera oil

1 tsp. jojoba oil

2 tsp. sweet-almond oil

2 tsp. wheat-germ oil

5 drops palmarosa essential oil

3 drops carrot-seed essential oil

2 drops lavender essential oil

Combine the oils and place in the refrigerator in a glass container. Before using this natural moisturizer, cleanse your face and then apply 7 drops oil by massaging it into your skin with gentle motions. You should use this natural moisturizer for 6 months to attain the full benefits.

Make sure to consult with a specialist before using any oil to avoid any unwanted side effects.

Dry skin treatment has found a wonderful alternative to harsh, chemical skin products in natural skin care creams. The web is full of natural skin moisturizers that will do wonders for you dry skin.
